Have you ever been to Sea World in San Diego and had a hot, cinnamony churro fresh from the food cart?  I know, it’s not a super authentic churro, but something about that warm and crunchy goodness just felt right all those years ago, and our family has loved churros ever since.  Some Mexican restaurants have served us churros and they really are good. Most are fried dough coated in cinnamon sugar.

But these guys…these are like a little piece of Americana junk food combining monkey bread, cheesecake and churros into one totally tubular bit of junk food perfection.

We kinda went nuts over them.  I’m thinking you will, too.

You’ll use around one loaf, about 16 slices, of soft white bread.  Using a rolling pin, flatten each piece of bread until quite thin.  I’ve found that you can flatten several quite efficiently at a time.

Now, mix together 8 oz. of room temperature with 3/4 c. powdered sugar.

Spread sweetened cream cheese onto each piece of bread and roll it into a tube.

Melt 1/2 c. (1 stick of butter) in a shallow dish.  In a separate shallow dish, mix together 1 1/2 c. sugar and 2 tsp. cinnamon.

Roll each bread tube in the butter to coat and then in the cinnamon sugar to coat.

Line ’em all up close together on a rimmed cookie sheet and if you’re like me, pour all the excess cinnamon-sugar and then butter over the whole thing.

Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 20 minutes.  Serve warm.

Seriously, when that cream cheese goozes (my new word) out of the middle of this buttery, cinnamony yum, you will concur.

This is where it’s at.

Thanks to fashionablyfoodie.com for the idea!
