Do I need to sell you on the idea of warm, yeasty, fresh from the oven Homemade Hamburger Buns?  I think I might, because some days I need to remind myself that they are easy and they are soooo very worth it!

Homemade Hamburger Buns -- It's easier than you think to whip up a batch of buttery, soft homemade hamburger (or hotdog) buns and take your burgers over the top to outstanding |thatwhichnourishes.com

When your husband says, “How about hamburgers tonight?” and you think that might work for an easy dinner except you don’t have any buns?  Well, problem solved right here.  You make them in minutes and then just go about your day while the magic happens (ya know, like the dough rising and stuff).  Don’t be intimated.  These are EASY!  And any leftovers work great for next-day sandwiches like pulled pork or BBQ chicken or Cubans.  Mmmm….

And, yes, you can change the shape and use them deliciously for hot dogs or brats as well.

And hamburgers and hot dogs will go so perfectly this summer with My Pasta Salad, Aunt Doris’ Baked Beans, Buttery Baked Beans, and Old Fashioned Potato Salad!

To start, warm

1 c. milk,

3/4 c. water,

and 1/2 c. butter over low heat until the butter is melted.  Cool until lukewarm.

Now, mix together:

2 c. flour,

4 1/2 tsp. yeast (or two .25 oz. packages)

1/4 c. sugar

1 tsp. salt.

Add the lukewarm liquid to the dry ingredients and mix well.  I use my stand mixer and slowly add in the remaining 3 cups of flour.  Let the mixer knead the dough (dough hook is great to switch to most of the way through) for 2-3 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Grease two baking sheets with butter and then form 12-15 balls of dough about 3-4 inches in size.  I flatten a glob of dough slightly, and then tuck the ends under to keep the top smooth and then set each one on the baking sheet.  Let these beauties rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (usually a half an hour or so).

Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 12-15 minutes or until beautifully golden brown.  Let cool before slicing.

See?  That wasn’t so bad, was it?  The only danger is that once you try these, you may never go back to the bags at the store!  :o)
