Recipe type: Dessert, Chocolate
Serves: several dozen
Grocery List
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2½ c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 c. rolled (old-fashioned) oats
  • 12 oz. semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 T. butter
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
Here's how...
  1. Cream the butter and sugars for 2-3 minutes with a mixer.
  2. Add in the eggs and vanilla and mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, blend the flour, baking soda, salt, and oatmeal.
  4. Mix the dry ingredients into the butter/sugar mixture.
  5. Spread ⅔ of the mixture into a buttered 10x15" pan. Reserve ⅓ for later.
  6. To make the fudge, melt the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, butter and vanilla in a double boiler or a glass bowl set atop a saucepan with a few inches of boiling water inside.
  7. Spread the fudge over the top of the crust and then spread flattened spoonfuls of the remaining oat mixture over the top of the fudge.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or until barely golden brown.
  9. Cool at least most of the way before cutting into squares.
